Is it possible to predict accidents? The ninth edition of FRATERTALKS celebrated, with Ricardo Díaz
On February 26, a new edition of FRATERTALKS took place to talk about such an interesting topic as prediction of accidents, is it possible to predict workplace accidents? For this we have Ricardo Díaz Martín, Professor of Engineering at UDIMA and Dean of the Official College of Chemists of Madrid, in addition to being one of the people who has studied workplace accidents in greater depth from an analytical point of view, creating a mathematical model for the prediction of accidents.
During the FRATERTALK, our guest spoke to us about the various factors that influence the modeling of workplace accidents, reaching the conclusion that by studying the accident rate in depth, a fairly homogeneous and reliable pattern can be established in such a way that it allows predicting the probability of an accident occurring. One of the things that has caught the attention of our guest during the accident prediction project that he has developed is how some of the stereotypes that we had very well assimilated as factors that increased the probability of accidents, really do not have as much influence as is believed, or even sometimes, it is completely the opposite of what we believed.
Likewise, Ricardo spoke about the influence of the human factor on the prediction of accidents and how knowing with certainty the probability of an accident occurring would mean making risk assessments that were much more effective, efficient and, above all, much more adjusted to the reality of the risk.
Finally, taking a look at the future, Ricardo commented that, with new technologies such as Big Data, the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence, a world full of possibilities opens up for the prediction of accidents, being technologies that little by little will be integrated into the field of prevention as another tool to reduce workplace accidents.
Without a doubt, Ricardo offered us a most interesting and educational day. If you couldn't attend FRATERTALK live, here's another chance to see it:
Finally, during this FRATERTALK #9, the new Fraternidad-Muprespa guide was presented:"Good practices in the investigation of workplace accidents", available to all our mutual workers through from our Online Prevention Classroom. You can access the guide by clicking ___HERE.
Analyzing the accident rate in depth we see that the accidents, statistically, follow a fairly homogeneous pattern
And we are already counting the days until March's FRATERTALK which... promises! Do you remember these dates last year? By then we were already beginning to hear something on the news about a new virus called COVID19, which was spreading through distant China... without knowing everything that would come upon us shortly after.
It is one year since the beginning of the pandemic in our country and it is a perfect time to take stock of the situation we are in and, above all, what are the most immediate challenges that we will have to face to defeat the virus once and for all.
Decree of the state of alarm, confinement, masks, PCR, quarantine, hydroalcoholic gel, vaccines... there have been many terms that we have incorporated into our daily vocabulary and in all this time we have learned a lot about COVID-19... but there are still doubts and uncertainties to clear up.
HTMLTAG62___Therefore, we are waiting for you next March 26 at 10am in our next FRATERTALK which will be titled “A year of COVID-19, and now what?” where we will have the luck and pleasure of having one of the greatest specialists in this field such as Carmen Cámara Hijón, Secretary of the Spanish Society of Immunology and clinical immunologist at the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, and also one of the regular expert voices of the television program HORIZONTE broadcast on the TV network Four.
