Mobility Week in Europe
From September 16 to 22, the European Mobility Week 2020 is celebrated,, a campaign aimed at raising awareness about the negative consequences of irrational car use in the city, both for public health and the environment and also to highlight the benefits of using more sustainable modes of transport such as public transport, cycling and trips to foot.
This initiative arose in Europe in 1999 and and is celebrated every year by carrying out activities to promote sustainable mobility and promoting the development of good practices and permanent measures in cities. Last year, of the 3,136 participating European cities, 561 cities were Spanish, with 2,202 permanent measures presented.
The theme chosen by the European Commission for this year's campaign is "For zero-emission mobility". This theme reflects the ambitious objective of achieving neutrality in carbon emissions by 2050, included in the European Green Deal and also aims to highlight the importance of accessibility to zero-emission transport systems and promote an inclusive system for all people.
