Model for evaluating office jobs with the Rosa Method
The National Institute of Safety and Health at Work has recently published Prevention Technical Note 1.173 entitled:"Model for the evaluation of office jobs: ROSA Method (Rapid Office Strain Assessment)".
It presents the ROSA method that is used to evaluate postural risks in office workplaces that use equipment with display screens, which is based on the observation of the posture adopted and provides a numerical assessment that indicates both the level of risk and the level of action required.
The ROSA method was developed by three Canadian researchers and published in 2012 and is based on the ergonomic recommendations for office work included in the CSA Z412 guide prepared by the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety, as well as other technical criteria collected in ergonomic literature. These recommendations and criteria are limited to the posture adopted by the worker when using and interacting with some of the most common elements in an office workplace.
The ROSA methodology is analogous to other postural evaluation methods, such as the RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment) and REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assesment) methods and is based on the observation of a certain posture that, through a set of tables and partial scores allow obtaining a final score between 1 and 10 that is correlated with the discomfort of the worker.
