On January 16, EU Directive 219/130 of the European Parliament and the Council was published, amending Directive 2004/37/EC on the protection of workers against the risks related to exposure to carcinogens or mutagens during work. work.

A carcinogen is a physical, chemical or biological agent potentially capable of producing cancer when exposed to living tissues and a mutagen is a physical, chemical or biological agent that alters or changes genetic information and this increases the frequency of mutations above the natural level. When numerous mutations cause cancer, they are called carcinogens.

The Directive 2004/37/EC of the European Parliament aimed to protect workers against risks to their health and safety arising from exposure to carcinogens or mutagens in the workplace. Mandatory occupational exposure limit values established on the basis of available information, in particular scientific and technical data, economic feasibility and protocols for measuring exposure in the workplace, are important elements of the general measures established by the Directive.

The established minimum requirements are intended to protect workers at Union level and Member States may establish stricter mandatory occupational exposure limit values or other protective measures.
