Directive (EU) 2024/869 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 March 2024 amending Directive 2004/37/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, and Directive 98/24/EC of the Council, has recently been published, as regards regarding the limit values for lead and its inorganic compounds and for diisocyanates, a new standard on carcinogens that marks a significant milestone in the protection of occupational health in Europe, especially with regard to exposure to lead and diisocyanates.

As far as lead is concerned, approximately 1.5 million workers will benefit from the new protection measures since it has been agreed to reduce the occupational exposure limit from 0.15mg/m3 to 0.03mg/m3 for the Inhalable Fraction, and the biological exposure limit from 70μg/100ml to 15μg/100ml.

Regarding diisocyanates, limit values are established for the first time at EU level and a limit of 6μg NCO/m3 will be set for long-term exposures and 12μg NCO/m3 for short-term exposures, although until December 31, 2028 a limit value of 10 μg NCO/m3 for long-term exposures and 20 μg NCO/m3 for long-term exposures will be applicable until December 31, 2028. short-lived.
