New Guide to Good Practices in Accident Investigation
We continue with the presentation of our new 15 good practice guides, developed in collaboration with Prevencontrol. This time it is the turn of the Guide to Good Practices in the Investigation of Workplace Accidents, a topic that seems of capital importance to us.
As always, in a simple and visual way, we will learn how we should investigate an accident, starting by distinguishing what is in front of us: an accident?, an incident?, a near-miss?... We will have to investigate all of them to learn what is failing and thus propose measures, which is the objective of any investigation.
As we are discovering with Vision Zero, the International Association of Social Security (AISS) campaign for zero harm, we know that accidents will happen, therefore, we are going to implement measures so that we minimize the damage.
We will also see in the guide, the typical errors that are made when investigating accidents, unconsciously there are times that we make them, so one way to avoid them is to be aware of them:
- Attributional biases
- Search for culprits
- Superficiality
- Improvisation
- Conclusions exempt from practical results
- Narrow-minded
- Self-indulgence
A fundamental part of the guide describes the different research methods most used, they are defined, explained and through examples we will see how to use them, which is the final objective of this guide.
All our guides have the same structure:
- A brief introduction where the guide is put into place.
- A presentation and objectives section that reflects what is intended with this guide and the target audience.
- Central part with the different chapters, within which practical and accessible content will be included for all people who follow the guide. Each chapter includes:
- Introduction.
- Summary associated with the chapter.
- Conclusions.
- Final reflection questions.
- Solutions.
- Final section with bibliography.
