Occupation, economic activity and cancer
One of the biggest health problems facing workplaces across Europe, and certainly around the world, is work-related cancer. According to 2017 EU-OSHA data, more than half of work-related deaths are due to cancer.
It is therefore a good time to remember a publication that is a step that provides knowledge on occupational cancer, published by the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work entitled Occupation, economic activity and mortality from cancer in Spain: Executive summary.
This research work analyzes mortality from cancer in Spain by crossing census data with the mortality registry, which allows estimating the risk of death from cancer, through the calculation of the standardized mortality ratio (SMR) by gender and age, in different occupations and economic activities.
The data offered by the text allow us to identify spaces of preferential interest in which to intervene, for the prevention of cancer in general and occupational cancer in particular.
