Occupational diseases, good preventive practices
Today we present a guide of which we are especially proud: Good Practices in the Prevention of Diseases Professionals, prepared in collaboration with Prevencontrol.
In Spain, the legally accepted concept of occupational disease is: "that contracted as a result of work performed as an employee, in the activities that are specified in the EEPP table that is approved by the applicable provisions, and that arises from the action of elements or substances that are indicated in said table for each EEPP."
Therefore, in order to qualify a disease as professional, as indicated by law, three requirements must be met:
- That there is a direct relationship between illness and work.
- That it be an activity included in the new EEPP table.
- That the disease is caused by elements or substances indicated in the table.
In the guide that concerns us today, we want to make clear the difference between a work accident and an occupational disease, to do so we give examples of both. We use tables and diagrams to make it clearer, a sample is the one we see below, in which we observe the differences between AT and EEPP if we analyze the damage to health caused by each of them:
A relevant part of the guide is dedicated to identifying the occupational diseases that are found in the activities carried out in different sectors, as we always say, the first step to tackle a problem is to identify it in order to find its causes, in this case with very clear examples we can find out:
Once we have identified the problem, the next step is to consider what measures we can implement to address it, we can see this in the guide through good practices that have already been successful in different companies, let's see an example:
On the other hand, let's imagine that we suspect an occupational disease, what do we do? We should investigate it, we will need to know the causal agent, the exposure, occupational disease and causal relationship. Here we give an example of a fictitious company with fictitious data:
The following files are the continuation of the investigation and the proposed preventive measures...but we do not want to reveal them to you here. You can download the guide to find the solution.
All our guides have the same structure:
- A brief introduction where the guide is put into place.
- A presentation and objectives section that reflects what is intended with this guide and the target audience.
- Central part with the different chapters, within which practical and accessible content will be included for all people who follow the guide. Each chapter includes:
- Introduction.
- Summary associated with the chapter.
- Conclusions.
- Final reflection questions.
- Solutions.
- Final section with bibliography.
