The INSST has recently published the new list of Occupational exposure limit values for chemical contaminants in Spain for 2023, which have been approved by the National Commission for Safety and Health at Work.

This document is reviewed and updated annually for the adoption of community occupational exposure limit values (VLA) (binding and indicative) or by the needs arising from changes in production processes and the introduction of new substances, new technical and scientific knowledge, as well as the evolution of the legal framework in which they are applied.

The main new features of this edition are the following:

  • The VLAs for the chemical agents cadmium and its inorganic compounds, diesel engine emissions, hardwoods, softwoods and butyl acetates have been adopted and included in Table 1.
  • The environmental limit value for gasoline is withdrawn as its value is outdated in relation to the limit value for benzene.
  • The VLA modifications established in Royal Decree 395/2022, which modifies Royal Decree 665/1997, have been incorporated.
  • The modifications published in Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/692 amending, for the purposes of its adaptation to technical and scientific progress, Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council, on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures.
  • The definition of nanomaterial in Chapter 4 has been updated taking into account the recommendation of the European Commission of June 10, 2022.
