Personal protective equipment against electrical risk
The INSST has recently published a brochure titled: "Personal protective equipment for eyes, face and head against electrical risk 2023".
The purpose of this brochure is to guide the process of choosing and using PPE that protects the eyes, face and head against electrical risk, taking into account its characteristics in relation to electrical insulation, thermal protection against electric arc or dissipation of electrostatic charge.
When evaluating the risk caused by electrical energy, not only the risk of electric shock due to contact with live elements (whether by direct or indirect contact) must be taken into account, but also those derived from an electric arc and those caused by the dangerous accumulation of electrostatic charges.
Therefore, when it is necessary to use PPE intended to protect against electrical risks, the determination of their characteristics, as well as the levels of protection they must offer, becomes especially important.
