Report on traffic accidents at work in 2021
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health published last October: "2021 Traffic Workplace Accident Report". Since 2007, the INSST has been preparing reports related to work-related accidents related to traffic.
They show that accidents related to traffic and the mobility of the working population play a sadly prominent role, both due to their number and severity, due to the consequences they produce and due to the personal and economic cost they entail for society. In addition to accidents during the work day, the report analyzes accidents in itinere, due to the important percentage weight they have in the group of all work-related traffic accidents.
This document presents the results corresponding to the year 2021 and when analyzing the comparisons of the data with those of the previous year, the exceptional nature of the accident data for the year 2020 must be kept in mind, as a consequence of the labor and social restrictions adopted for the management of the pandemic.
Of the total of 601,123 work accidents with sick leave that occurred in 2021 in Spain, 65,342 were traffic accidents, called work traffic accidents (ALT), which represent 10.9% of the total work accidents, of which 57.8% were in-work accidents. itinere.
In terms of severity, the percentage weight of the ALT in minor work accidents is 10.8% and this increases progressively as the accidents become more serious, thus, the ALT represent 19.4% of the serious work accidents and in the case of fatal work accidents the ALT constitute the 29.1%.
