Report on work accidents due to overexertion
Accidents due to physical overexertion on the musculoskeletal system represent a high percentage of the total accident rate in our country and to address this issue, at the end of last year the INSST presented its usual annual report titled: "Work accidents due to overexertion. Data 2024".
This report aims to offer a detailed view of the magnitude, distribution and characteristics of work accidents due to overexertion based on the analysis of the accident reports reported in 2024 (year in which 162,753 work accidents due to overexertion occurred, representing 29.3% of the total accidents that occurred during a work day with sick leave in Spain).
The document analyzes workplace accidents due to overexertion through the study of different variables that allow describing the profile of the injured worker and the companies involved, as well as the circumstances in which these accidents occur and also identifies the most affected activities and occupations and the most frequently injured parts of the body.
This edition explicitly incorporates the gender perspective, which makes it possible to detect differences between men and women in exposure to risk, the typology of accidents and damage to health. In this sense, the results show that men concentrate the majority of cases, mainly in the industry, construction and transportation sectors, while women present a significant presence in services, care and commerce, with injuries more associated with repetitive movements and handling tasks.
