The General Directorate of Traffic launched between August 2 and 8 a new special surveillance and control campaign for alcohol and drugs in which agents from the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard have controlled a total of 154,041 drivers, of which 2,945 tested positive for alcohol and/or drugs.

This means that just over 400 drivers were detected at the wheel every day after having consumed alcohol and/or drugs, 30 less than in the previous campaign carried out last June. Despite this decrease, the DGT insists on considering that these figures are still unacceptable since, with just one driver under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, the rest of the road users are already being put at risk.

In the case of alcohol, professional drivers, motorcyclists and novice drivers have represented 4% of the positives in this campaign, with 24, 78 and 24 cases respectively.

Alcohol is a clear risk factor in driving that is directly related to a high number of road traffic accidents since a person who has drunk underestimates the effects and alterations that alcohol has on their driving performance, which is why we must insist on the message that not a single drop should be consumed of alcohol if we are going to drive.
