Review of evidence and good practices on health surveillance in exposure to occupational radon
The Ministry of Health has recently published the document entitled: "Review of evidence and good practices on specific health surveillance in people exposed to occupational radon".
With the update of the Health Protection Regulation against the risks derived from exposure to ionizing radiation, employers must maintain control and dosimetric history of workers exposed to radon, understood as exposed to those workers who may exceed 6 mSv, because in their workplace the concentration of radon exceeds 300 Bq/m3.
The information on exposure to radon must be transmitted to the Prevention Service, which will be responsible for assessing and deciding how the health surveillance of workers exposed to radon should be, for example, indicating the relevance of a medical examination or actions of any other type aimed at the prevention or early detection of lung cancer.
The document proposes to locate and analyze existing good practices and scientific evidence on the specific health surveillance of workers exposed to radon and assess the main alternatives available for the specific health surveillance of exposed workers and their possible application to the Spanish context.
