Safety and health perspectives for work on digital platforms

Within the current European campaign 2023-2025 "Safe and healthy jobs in the digital age" the European Agency has presented an interesting document entitled: "Safety and health perspectives for work on digital platforms".

EU-OSHA research on digital platform work analyzes opportunities, challenges and risks, describes types of digital platform work, sets out policy examples and supports the development of practical initiatives and tools to prevent OSH risks inspired by a range of examples.

It is evident that work on digital platforms is a booming employment model in several sectors of the economy, in which paid work is organized on or through an online platform. It is a gateway to the labor market, especially for some vulnerable groups, and offers flexibility, however, it entails risks and challenges for occupational health and safety (OSH), such as intensive work, isolation, job insecurity, lack of clarity in the employment situation and the problems caused by the fact that algorithms manage tasks and schedules.
