Special traffic device for summer

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has launched its special device for the summer of 2020 with the aim of reducing road accidents. This year we have an exceptional moment before us due to the situation we are experiencing caused by the pandemic and this makes this a different summer and a different traffic operation. This circumstance and the pain that the disease has entailed and is still generating in our country is the reference from which the DGT has designed its informative campaign for social networks establishing an analogy between the Covid-19 pandemic and the pandemic that is ultimately traffic accidents.

The awareness campaign and the surveillance and regulation device that has been prepared for the summer months have the motto: "This country cannot bear any more deaths". Likewise, during the two summer months, three surveillance campaigns on speed, motorcycles and alcohol and drugs will be carried out, thus resuming the annual calendar that had been suspended during the state of alarm.

Despite this uncertainty scenario, the DGT continues to maintain special summer operations in these date groups:

• First summer operation departure from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5.

• Departure from August 1st, Friday, July 31st to Sunday, August 2nd.

• August 15 special operation from Friday, August 14 to Sunday, August 16.

• Return of summer from Friday, August 28 to Monday, August 31.

As all these operations coincide with weekends, when the intensity of vehicles is greater, it is recommended to plan trips avoiding the days and hours of greatest influx so as not to encounter traffic jams leaving large cities and always circulate maintaining all vehicle and personal safety conditions.
