Technical guide for the prevention of risk from exposure to respirable crystalline silica
The National Institute of Silicosis (INS) has recently published the Technical guide for the prevention of risk due to exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) in the workplace, a work that is funded by MITECO and has had the collaboration of INSST:
The purpose of the guide is to facilitate the application and interpretation of the requirements of Royal Decree 665/1997 in relation to work in which there is or may be exposure to respirable crystalline silica, establishing criteria and recommendations in order to achieve correct application of the regulations and preventive practice.
Its structure consists of a central body that develops the contents of the aforementioned standard specifically for the works in which SCR dust is generated, or can be generated, thus being of common application to all sectors.
In addition, a series of appendices of practical applications and prevention measures aimed at specific activities are attached and to this end, the sectors with the highest incidence of silicosis among their personnel in the last ten years have been selected, taking into account the incidence data from the annual reports of the INS.
