Update of the Prevention Technical Notes on fixed service scales
Thefixed service ladders also called ladders or cat ladders, are those that are made up of a series of rungs or steps fixed to a vertical surface and that are used to access decks, wells, silos, towers and other areas that are difficult to access and these days they are current because the National Institute of Safety and Health at Work (INSST) has just published two technical notes on them.
NTP 1160 cancels and replaces NTP 408 and describes the different types and their main elements, the characteristics that must be met for safe use, as well as the factors to take into account when choosing the most appropriate fall protection system in each case.
For its part, NTP 1161 is a continuation of NTP 1160 and relates the main risks and risk factors derived from the use of these access systems, as well as the preventive measures to be carried out for each of them.
It must be remembered that the Prevention Technical Notes are guides to good practices and their indications are not mandatory unless they are included in a current regulatory provision, but over the years they have become fundamental technical support in terms of occupational risk prevention.
In Fraternidad-Muprespa we have a wide catalog of training resources for protected workers among which we highlight our Good practice guides with a focus aimed at both employers and workers, which result in the improvement of the organization's preventive culture and that we encourage you to learn about through this link.
