The International Labor Organization (ILO) has announced that in 2020, World Day for Safety and Health at Work, will focus on the issue of violence and harassment in the world of work.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated annually on April 28 and promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and occupational diseases around the world. It is an awareness campaign aimed at focusing international attention on the magnitude of the problem and how creating and promoting a culture of safety and health can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.

Violence and harassment in the workplace are a significant and continuing threat to the health, safety of workers, productivity and reputation of organizations. In June 2019, the ILO centenary conference already adopted the Convention on Violence and Harassment (No. 190) and the accompanying Recommendation (No. 206) which call for the prohibition and prevention of violence and harassment in the world of work.

As part of this year's 2020 campaign the ILO will produce a global report highlighting how a comprehensive national and workplace health and safety framework could address violence and harassment by incorporating provisions related to this issue in laws, regulations and conventions collectives at the national level and developing specific standards with codes of practice and guidelines to support the implementation of programs and preventive measures.
