The INSST published this year an interesting document that we remember today in Previene titled: "Workplace accidents and work-related variables. Analysis based on the special module of the EPA 2022".

According to the special module of the Active Population Survey (EPA) on work-related accidents and work-related health problems, in 2020, 3.9% of the working population suffered accidents related to their work, of which 80% of injured people had injuries, which means that 3.1% of workers are injured because of work.

Specifically, data related to work accidents with or without injuries and their relationship with some exposure factors present at work that can influence physical health and mental well-being were analyzed.

The safety factors analyzed were painful or exhausting postures, repetitive movements of hands or arms, handling of heavy loads, noise, strong vibration, chemicals, dust, fumes or gases, activities that involve great visual effort, slips, trips and falls, use of machines or hand tools and use of vehicles in the course of work. The analysis shows that handling heavy loads increased the risk of work accidents in a statistically significant way.

The psychosocial and organizational risk factors considered were time pressure or work overload, violence or threat of violence, harassment or intimidation, poor communication or cooperation within the organization, dealing with difficult clients, patients, students, etc.; Job insecurity and lack of autonomy or influence over the pace of work or work procedures. The analysis shows that all the psychosocial factors studied increase the risk of suffering a work accident.
