World Pedestrian Day
The World Pedestrian Day was established on August 17 by the World Health Organization in memory of the case of Bridget Driscoll, a citizen of London, who is considered the first person known to have been hit by a motor vehicle. Therefore, this date is commemorated with the purpose of spreading a road culture, reinforcing the use of pedestrian spaces, promoting respect as well as remembering the obligations involved in walking.
To join this day, we would like to remember today that our Mutual Fund has a downloadable infographicon road safety for pedestrians with simple but important recommendations that any pedestrian must keep in mind. Some of the main ideas are these:
- Use the pedestrian crossings regulated by road markings to cross the road.
- Respect traffic lights, traffic indications and priority rules.
- Before crossing, always look to the sides and check that the vehicles have stopped by establishing visual contact.
- When crossing, avoid distractions such as the use of mobile phones or other electronic devices.
- Never cross behind large vehicles. The crossing must be done in front so that the rest of the vehicles can see us.
- Avoid crossing when a vehicle is parking or maneuvering in reverse.
- When driving through garage entrances or fords, pay attention when crossing.
- As a basic principle we must remember that the pedestrian must always walk on the sidewalk.
- On the road driving on the left and at night use the reflective vest to increase visibility.
Fraternidad-Muprespa works to help its associates reduce work-related road accidents and prevent accidents. traffic accidents and we disseminate this message through our section dedicated to occupational road safety within the portal Previene___ with numerous contents related to this matter that we encourage you to consult.
