A story about security and leadership
The Foment del Treball Nacional has published with the financing of the State Foundation for the Prevention of Occupational Risks a application based on the book written by Joan Vicenç Duran whose title is: "Zero accidents, a utopia?" which we find highly recommended. With this application in a pleasant way (almost gamified) you can discover a story of security and leadership, as its title says:
Zero accidents. A story about security and leadership
Through the screens, through questionnaires, you will be able to discover the keys to this book, which we believe is a great example of how to change the preventive culture in a company, even having the worst scenario: a multitude of accidents/incidents.
In the book, as in the application, specific measures are outlined that were implemented in the factory where all the action takes place. We are not going to reveal all of them, but some are relevant and they are very much in line with the seven golden rules of Vision Zero:
Management must "go down" to the floor, that is, leave the offices. Among others, they are proposed:
- Breakfast with the workers.
- Visit the factory every day, two or three times, morning, afternoon or night shifts.
- Visit other factories that have had the same problem to find solutions.
A training effort must be made for all staff.
To be able to carry out a good accident investigation, you must know the different accident analysis techniques, cause tree, what if, hazops…
... and celebrate successes. When a certain proposed goal has been reached, no matter how small, it should be celebrated, and thanks should be given for the effort made. It is also about team building, generating commitment; A committed team can achieve whatever it sets out to do. In these times of asking for efforts, only those leaders who have won over their teams in advance will achieve success.
From Fraternidad-Muprespa we advise our associated companies to advance to the next level in occupational risk prevention, for this we have a complete section called Vision Zero, where you can find news, tools, infographics, legislation, technical articles, etc.
Are you up for the next revolution in PRL?
