We inaugurate this year 2020 with the EU-OSHA campaign dedicated to the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The title of the campaign that will last from 2020 until 2022 is the headline of our article:

Healthy jobs: let's relax the burdens

Observing the accident data from recent years, we realize that musculoskeletal disorders have a long prevalence in both the data on work accidents and occupational diseases. Although companies have been dedicating efforts and budgets to tackle the risks that generate this type of disorder, the data tells us that we are not hitting the target.

The risks related to uncomfortable postures, forced work positions or repetitive movements are the origin of this condition. It is estimated that at a European level, musculoskeletal disorders are responsible for at least 15% of losses measured in DALYs or DALYs (disability-adjusted life years or equivalent years of healthy life lost due to poor health).

The EU-OSHA campaign will give us a global vision of the causes of this persistent problem. In addition to promoting this holistic approach at the source, practical tools and solutions will also be provided that can help tackle this risk in the workplace.

As EU-OSHA tells us on its website, there are many easy and cheap solutions that can be implemented to solve this type of risk, for example, changing the position of elements in an office or providing a forklift to handle goods. In other cases, more complex solutions must be implemented that may require external help, for example, managing the work organization that avoids these risks.

InFraternidad-Muprespa we are aware that the most important thing is the health of the workers of our associated companies and to this end we are developing specific actions related to the dissemination of solutions to reduce work accidents and occupational diseases related to musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace, such as, for example, writing articles related to guides or good practices, teaching courses related to overexertion (see Calendar of Activities), creating infographics or disseminating documentation from official organizations related to musculoskeletal disorders, among others, we will reveal all of this month by month.
