In this way, the Mutua collaborates in mitigating the economic impact of COVID-19 on thousands of families in our country. The largest increase in the number of recognized benefits has occurred due to the extraordinary benefit for cessation of activity of self-employed workers, since it went from 80 requests for the ordinary benefit in 2019 to more than 93,000 in the current year. The amount allocated to this benefit was 202,442 euros last year. This year they have exceeded 231 and a half million euros.
With respect to temporary disability benefits due to common contingency, they have also increased, both in the number of benefits recognized and in the amount paid: 41.6%. The benefits that experienced a decrease in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year were those for temporary disability due to professional contingency and risk during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In the case of the first of them, the temporary disability due to professional contingency, the decrease of more than 8,000 processes and 4.4 million euros, is due to the decrease in the number of hours worked, due to confinement and the temporary stoppage in companies whose activity was not considered essential during the state of alarm.
The amount of the benefit for risk during pregnancy and breastfeeding was reduced by 16.3%, from 14.7 to 12.3 million euros. This is the benefit intended for workers whose employment contract is suspended during pregnancy or breastfeeding of children under 9 months of age, provided for when the worker must change jobs to another compatible with her condition, but said change is not possible.
Along with the payment of these benefits and since the state of alarm was declared in Spain on March 14, Likewise, the information provided by the Communication and Occupational Risk Prevention Departments has been intensified, necessary for the return to the so-called “new normal”.
