The Spanish Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, SECOT has held the 59th edition of its congress on September 28, 29 and 30 at the facilities of the Valencia Congress Palace. The president of the SECOT, Luis R. Ramos Pascua, has welcomed this congress, reiterating that “the SECOT is a scientific society with more than 87 years of meetings only interrupted by circumstances as adverse as the Spanish Civil War or the Covid-19 pandemic”.

In this event the traumatology team of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital has participated in an interesting “crossfire” debate session in which the Dr. Álvaro Minuesa Asensio, head of the Traumatology Service and Orthopedic Surgery of the HFMH and the Dr. Miguel Ángel Ruiz Iban, head of the Shoulder and Elbow Unit at the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital in Madrid, defended different positions on “The advantages and disadvantages of whether it is better to wait or not, in the treatment of grade Acromioclavicular Dislocation III”.

In the space of communications on spinal pathology, the Dr. Tomás Losa Cuadrado, MIR R4 has defended the research on the “Study with resonance “magnetic imaging of provisionally immobilized discs in percutaneous instrumentation of vertebral fractures” carried out together with Dr. Fernando Ordoñez Pascual, head of the Column Unit, Ismael Rahmuni Del Pozo, Marta Pérez Rodríguez and the Dr. Eduardo Hevia Sierra, former head of the Column Unit recently retired.

In addition, the team from the Lower Limb Traumatology Unit has presented two communications. On the one hand, Dr. Losa has presented the “Descriptive study on the extended anteromedial approach in high energy tibial pilon fractures”, carried out together with Dr. Vicente Ángel Díez, (head of the Lower Limb Unit), the Dr. Elena García Elías (traumatologist of this unit), Dr. Ismael Rahmuni del Pozo (MIR R5) and Dra. Marta Pérez Rodríguez (MIR R3). The study concludes the advantages of this technique.

Offers good visibility, optimization of surgical time and no complications in wound healing post-surgical

And on the other hand the Dra.Marta Pérez Rodríguez has presented the communication on “Functional results in Lisfranc arthrodesis in patients in the workplace. Is the AOFAS applicable to these patients?”, a study carried out together with Dr. Vicente Ángel Díez, la Dra. Bárbara Batres Cid (traumatologist of the Spine Unit), Dr. Ismael Rahmuni del Pozo and Dr. Tomás Losa.

20% of Lisfranc joint injuries go unnoticed and in the workplace it appears mainly in young patients with high demand functional

This is how Dr. Pérez explained the interest of this research, as well as the interest in the analysis of the use of the AOFAS (American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society) functional assessment scale for this type of injury in a patient of the work scope.
