Infographic Golden Rule 6: improve skills
Nowadays, following human resources trends and different recruiters, people are not in the same job throughout their entire working life. Changes and improvements in jobs are imposed, in this rotation, when changing from one job to another, what a worker takes with them is the training received. Everything you learned in your previous job will become part of your experience, which is really valuable. Although our language is very rich, the Anglo-Saxon term is very descriptive: "know how", the know-how, the experience, how it is done, the capabilities, the acquired knowledge...
This sixth golden rule is focused on improving training which in turn will result in developing the skills of the staff and therefore the company as a whole, for this it gives us measures that we must implement in each company. As we always say, Vision Zero is flexible, it can be applied in any type of company, it gives us general guidelines that we must then particularize in each company.
It is not about doing crazy courses, nor about making a large financial investment, it is about creating a training plan for the different work stages of all workers in the company. We refer to including training as part of a strategic value of the company, for example:
- At the beginning of the professional career in the company. Plan a mentoring program, so that the most experienced professionals teach how the job should be done, thus preventing new workers from making the same mistakes over and over again. Conducting training explaining what the company does, what the objectives, policy, mission, vision, and values are will help all staff understand what their job is. It is in these first months, in which statistically more accidents happen, therefore, we are going to stop briefly, train the worker and thus avoid greater evils.
- Make a training plan throughout the career of each employee, it is about discovering internal talent, promoting the skills of workers. This training must be eminently practical, not general, appropriate to the specific machines and workplaces of each company.
- We continually review staff training, innovating, we look at long-term sick leave when they return to work, refreshing their training. With this new knowledge, people will be able to apply for new jobs or learn new ways to do their work more efficiently, which will always benefit their career plan.
- Before a worker leaves the company, we make sure that their knowledge is transferred to the team. In these cases, when we lose a valuable resource, we are aware that we are losing some knowledge or way of doing the work. We try to mitigate this change as much as possible to minimize the impact.
Increasing training, we enter a beneficial circle, improving knowledge, increasing skills and feeling part of the team, we feel that the company is committed to us, improving commitment, in the most positive sense of the word: engagement.
From Fraternidad-Muprespa we make available to our associated companies all the resources we have so that their workers can train for free, for example, through online courses that can be found in the prevention classroom.
