Fratertalk #18: "OPTIMIZING WORKPLACE HEALTH WITH LEAN", WITH DOLORES RICO AND IGNACIO CABO

We dedicate this Fratertalk to talking about a philosophy that can help us a lot to be more effective and efficient in the objective of improving workplace safety: LEAN . It is an innovative way of thinking and doing in prevention, focused on continuous improvement and enhancement of occupational health and safety, allowing the elimination of activities or tasks that do not provide added value. That is the objective of LEAN applied to workplace safety: to have more resources available to dedicate to what is truly important: reducing workplace accidents.

And to talk about this very interesting topic, we were lucky to have two experts like:

  • Dolores Rico, consultant and promoter in occupational safety, health and well-being.
  • Ignacio Cabo, health and safety and continuous improvement manager at Ontex.

Both offered us the most important keys about LEAN, what its foundation is, what advantages it provides and how to implement it correctly in organizations.

Fratertalk #19: "INVEST IN REST, INVEST IN HEALTH", WITH DR. JAVIER ALBARES

As much as it may be difficult for us to accept it, our body's capacity is not infinite and adequate rest is essential to maintain a good level of health, not to mention those jobs that require a high degree of concentration (operating machinery, driving...) and that a lack of rest can lead to a work accident.

To talk about the importance that a good rest has on our health, we had the pleasure of having Doctor Javier Albares, a doctor specializing in clinical neurophysiology and sleep medicine and also director of the Sleep Unit at the Teknon Clinic in Barcelona.

FRATERTALK #20: "PROFESSIONAL DISEASES, A SILENT THREAT", WITH MONTSERRAT GARCÍA GÓMEZ AND JOSE IGNACIO MORA

If there is one thing that characterizes occupational diseases, it is their slow, silent and gradual nature of the damage they cause to the worker's health, which makes them a silent threat, since it may be the case that for a long time they are not well diagnosed, their true origin is not known or even that the worker has become accustomed to living with pain without finding a cause for their pathology.

To talk about such an interesting topic we had the pleasure of having two experts such as:

  • José Ignacio Mora, director of the I.T. Care Coordination and Control Center of Fraternidad-Muprespa.
  • Montserrat García Gómez, head of the Occupational Health Area of the Ministry of Health.

FRATERTALK #21: "RED WIRE OR BLUE WIRE? WHEN LEADING IS THE RIGHT DECISION", WITH JULIO DE LA IGLESIA

Can fear be controlled? How does it affect us in decision making? At what point does a worker  stop being afraid of suffering a work accident and take risks that could cause it?

About how to face fear and how we can learn to manage it to exercise positive leadership, we spoke in the latest edition of Fratertalks with a person who, due to his profession, looks fear in the eyes every day and in whom a bad decision can put his life and that of his colleagues at risk. This is Julio de la Iglesia, TEDAX (Technician Specialist in Deactivation of Explosive Ordnance), coach and author of the book "Fear is for the brave."

FRATERTALK #22: "THE ROLE OF THE LABOR INSPECTION AND THE PROSECUTOR'S MINISTRY BEHIND THE WORK ACCIDENT", WITH NIEVES GONZÁLEZ AND ÓSCAR BARRIOS

To what extent does the criminal liability of the entrepreneur  or the prevention technician reach in the event of a accident? of work ? Is it necessary to have everything documented and justified to avoid sanctions? What are the most common reasons for sanctions for the Labor Inspection?

We answered these and other questions in the last edition of Fratertalks with two exceptional guests:

  • Nieves González García, head of the Security Unit and Occupational Health  at the Provincial Labor and Social Security Inspection  of Madrid.
  • Óscar Barrios García, delegate prosecutor of  accidents  labor of the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Ávila.

FRATERTALK #23: "THE PRL AND THE TITANIC 110 YEARS AFTER THE SINKING", WITH ANTONIO JOSÉ MILLÁN.

Do you remember what happened on April 14, 1912? Indeed, it is the date on which one of the greatest events in maritime navigation occurred: the sinking of the Titanic. And you may wonder, what relationship does the sinking of the Titanic have with job security?

Thanks to the guest of this Fratertalk, Antonio José Millán, we have been able to see how many of the causes and errors that caused the sinking of the Titanic are very similar to those that today, 110 years later, are responsible for many of the work accidents that occur in our country, in addition to learning first-hand about a multitude of fascinating and little-known anecdotes and curiosities about the most famous ocean liner. the story.

Fratertalk #24: "LET'S AVOID TOMORROW'S WORKPLACE CANCER TODAY." R.D 395/2022"

Hearing the word cancer gives us goosebumps, since there are many lives that this disease takes every year. If we talk from a work point of view, in certain production processes carcinogenic agents are used that, if adequate risk prevention is not carried out in time, may lead to occupational cancer in the future.

Furthermore, the fact that it is a disease that comes to light several years after exposure to the carcinogen makes it even more dangerous, which is why it is necessary to act in advance, evaluating the risk and establishing the appropriate preventive measures that avoid the risk and that the workers are always in safe conditions.

To talk about all this, we had the pleasure of having Carlos Mojón, Technical Director of Laboratorios Himalaya and member of the General Council of Occupational Health and Safety Professionals, who enlightened us with his knowledge and experience in the area of industrial hygiene.

Fratertalk #25: "THE MANAGEMENT OF PSYCHOSOCIAL RISKS, ADVANCING ITS EVALUATION"

What factors must be taken into account when evaluating psychosocial risks? What to do after the evaluation? How should the company address a case of mobbing?

Among other aspects, Anabel shared in this edition of Fratertalks the keys to successfully carrying out a psychosocial risk assessment, how to successfully implement preventive measures linked to avoiding these types of risks or how to proceed when a case of mobbing occurs at work.

Without a doubt, a most interesting Fratertalk in the face of a type of risk for which it is more necessary than ever to act preventively.

FRATERTALK #26: "PEOPLE AT THE CENTER OF WORKPLACE ROAD SAFETY"

1,004 people died last year in road accidents, according to figures from the General Directorate of Traffic. A numerical data in which authentic personal dramas, truncated life projects and families that are broken are hidden behind it.

A more than enough reason not to give up in our efforts to encourage and promote road safety in the work environment. Therefore, as a closing to our V Labor Road Safety Week, we will celebrate a new edition of Fratertalks in which we will have as a guest an expert of the caliber of Bartolomé Vargas, more than 45 years of experience and first chief road safety prosecutor of the State Attorney General's Office for 16 years. A lifetime dedicated to reducing road accidents.
