The beginning of 2021, and a new decade, will be unforgettable.

The first days of January have turned the return of the Christmas holidays into an experience to remember and have made it clear to us that the return to routine will not be so easy.

With the storm Filomena we have enjoyed making snowmen with our little ones, skiing around the city or riding a sleigh, without the car. But it has also caused us serious difficulties and many problems in carrying out our usual, daily activities.

With the capital paralyzed by a historic snowfall, in the middle of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, our Hospital Fractures and other injuries due to falls and impacts have been the order of the day.

This eventuality has once again caused us to feel proud of our professionals, who arrived at their workplace overcoming obstacles and adversities. Others were not able to return to their homes, and had to stay in Madrid, even for several days without being able to leave the hospital. The healthcare centers had to close their doors due to being blocked by the snow, which contributed to the overload of the hospital, but in a supportive manner some doctors and nurses from these closed centers went to the Hospital to collaborate in assisting our protected workers.

A large part of the health personnel in Madrid hospitals was redeployed due to the increase in emergency visits caused by the snow, ice and low temperatures that Filomena brought us.

The volume of patients treated, victims of the storm, exceeded in those days that of patients admitted for Covid-19.

In Madrid there were more than 1,200 trauma emergencies attended to during the first Monday after the snowfall, a third of the total emergencies, according to the Health Minister of the Community of Madrid, Enrique Ruiz Escudero.

The Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital optimally coordinated the increase in emergencies caused by these accidents, to prevent it from affecting the normal functioning of the surgical programming. All the necessary resources were adapted and organized to quickly treat those injured by the storm without causing a delay in scheduled surgeries for other pathologies. In the record time of a few days, the normality that existed prior to Filomena's passage has been achieved.

The efficiency in the care of the worker who arrived at the emergency room of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital after having suffered a contingency was evident, providing an agile and appropriate response to unforeseen situations.

HTMLTAG27___Our Hospital and the human team that comprises it, have stood out as always for their commitment and closeness to our mutual members insured and protected workers.

Thank you very much and congratulations.
