Every May 12, International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world. This year the date is even more special since in February 2019 the World Health Organization declared that 2020 would be the Year of Nursing and Midwives. According to its institutional statement, for the WHO, nurses and midwives play “a crucial role in the provision of health services, as they dedicate their lives to caring for mothers and children, administering life-saving vaccines, providing health advice, caring for the elderly and, in general, meeting essential day-to-day health needs.”

When 2020 was declared the Year of Nursing, we were very far from imagining that we would experience an extreme situation in the midst of an unimaginable pandemic that has had healthcare personnel as the main protagonist.
