Report on Road Safety in Spain
The RACE in collaboration with GAD3, has recently presented the I Report on Occupational Road Safety in Spain, in which the increase in accidents stands out despite the feeling of improvement that exists in society and companies.
This is an extensive work that aims to give visibility to the problem of road safety during the working day, a situation that causes 249 deaths in Spain and a cost to society of 2,000 million euros per year. For the report, sources from the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, National Institute of Statistics or DGT,, among others, have been used.
In Spain, on average, half a million work-related accidents with sick leave occur each year, of which almost 70,000 correspond to road accidents, a figure that has not stopped increasing since 2013 and is already at pre-2010 levels.
In 2018, 249 people lost their lives in road accidents at work. The profile with the highest risk of suffering a work-related road accident is that of women between 16 and 29 years of age in itinere accidents, those that occur while traveling to and from the workplace and which account for 70% of the total, and men between 16 and 29 years of age in accidents in mission, that is, those produced during the work day.
In addition, there are more accidents on the way to work (64%) than returning from it, and one detail stands out: a person is more likely to suffer an accident if he/she has been working in the company for a short time (less than 6 months) and if the company is large (more than 250 workers).
