Every September 8, World Physiotherapy Day is celebrated, an event promoted by the international organization World Physiotherapy, with the aim of making visible the essential role that physiotherapists play in promoting health and well-being.

This year, the chosen motto is “Physiotherapy and physical activity for healthy aging: prevention of frailty and falls.” At Fraternidad-Muprespa we want to highlight the essential role that physiotherapy plays in all stages of life, but it especially has a strategic value in the field of occupational health.

As stated in Law 31/1995 on the Prevention of Occupational Risks, which establishes an active framework for preventive action, physiotherapy has a fundamental role. Early detection, postural correction, ergonomics and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders are pillars to improve the health of workers, which also contribute to reducing work absenteeism.

In Spain, more than 66,000 registered physiotherapists They work every day to improve people's quality of life and contribute to the recovery of their health.

Spending many hours and many days sitting, performing repetitive postures or lacking good postural hygiene can be corrected with 'movement microhabits' that prevent musculoskeletal disorders. These are some of them:

  • Carry out active breaks every two hours, since improves circulation and reduces postural fatigue.
  • Incorporate joint mobility exercises, neck, shoulders and wrists
  • Promote ergonomics: adjustable chairs, screens at eye level, lumbar support...
  • Avoid staying in the same position for more than 60 minutes and alternate sitting and standing.
  • Perform spine and hip stretches at the beginning and end of the day.
  • Outside of work, at least walk 30 minutes a day.
  • Maintain a strength exercise routine twice a week.

At Fraternidad-Muprespa we are committed to the global well-being of workers and we celebrate this World Day by reaffirming our commitment to occupational health and quality health care, in which physiotherapy plays a relevant role.
