Last Tuesday, February 9, the weekly podcast number 6 of Prevencontrol was published. Our colleague María Torijano, belonging to the Department of Prevention and Health Culture Development of our mutual insurance company Fraternidad-Muprespa, is in charge of sharing her personal definition of what a safety leader is for her, whose characteristics are summarized in 3: cross-disciplinary knowledge, team building, coherence. We transcribe here the definition that María proposed:

"For me, a safety leader is THE reference in health and safety in the company, not only because of his knowledge and experience in HSE but also because of his transversal knowledge of the company, of all its processes.

It must be someone who is trusted by colleagues (we are not talking about your team, we take that for granted) but rather by the rest of the departments, it must be a person who makes a team.

Finally, it must be someone whom the CEO can define as responsible, who does what he says. The safety leader must make his life easier, proposing measures that are easily acceptable to the CEO, so that between the two of them they make the safety messages resonate in the company."

The podcast hosted by the CEO of Prevencontrol, Joaquim Ruiz, deals in this episode with whether software can help strengthen leadership in security. As a guest we enjoyed Antonio Vázquez, Consultant Director at Prevencontrol, who in a brilliant, simple and technical way, describes how computer tools can help improve the preventive culture in a company.

safety leaders

Computer tools will allow us to transform preventive actions such as how many safety walks have been carried out, how many preventive observations we have made, etc., into information so that, after analyzing it, we can take measures to improve safety in the company.

Among all the interesting phrases that Antonio tells us, we choose this one that seems key to us and belongs to William Thomson, Lord Kelvin:

What is not defined cannot be measured. What is not measured cannot be improved.

For the Consultant Director at Prevencontrol it is essential to stop, carry out a diagnosis to know where we are starting from, make a prevention strategy aligned with the general strategy of the company, define indicators and review frequency, establish tools to facilitate this measurement and be able to have traceability.

We won't tell you more so you can listen to the rest of the interesting podcast.

At Fraternidad-Muprespa, we always bet on digitalization and innovation, advising our associated companies in our common fight to reduce accidents, putting all our knowledge at their disposal. How do we do it?:
