The World Health Organization calls on “World Hand Hygiene Day” and reminds us of the importance of this basic action that only takes a few seconds but is essential, with the motto "Seconds save lives. Wash your hands!".

Proper hand hygiene practices reduce infections during care delivery and reduce up to 50% of infections. Its compliance by healthcare workers, as well as patients and all members of society, has demonstrated its effectiveness in this COVID-19 pandemic in reducing the risk of transmission of the virus, as part of a comprehensive package of preventive measures.

In the International Year of Health and Care Workers, declared by the WHO, hand hygiene is a simple but key gesture to support and protect these vital workers, and therefore involving all the actors involved is essential, being one of the performance indicators for Prevention and Infection Control, patient safety and the quality of health services worldwide.

And correct hand hygiene, something basic that is taught on the first day of class of any health training, has been implemented at a social level with the arrival of COVID-19, helping to reduce its transmission and that of many other viruses.
