The flexibility of the use of masks outdoors is approved
Last Friday, June 25, 2021, the Official State Gazette published the Royal Decree-Law 13/2021, of June 24, which modifies Law 2/2021 of March 29, which states that will cease The use of masks in outdoor spaces will be mandatory, as long as a minimum distance of at least 1.5 meters can be maintained between people, except for groups of cohabitants.
Therefore, the use of a mask will continue to be mandatory in any closed space, for public use or that is open to the public, as well as in any outdoor space in which the safety distance of at least 1.5 meters cannot be maintained between people, except for groups of cohabitants. The mask will also be mandatory at large outdoor events, when attendees are standing or seated and the aforementioned distance between people cannot be maintained.
Likewise, the use of masks will be mandatory on air and sea transport, on buses, railways and cable cars, as well as on passenger platforms and stations. Also in the case of public transport and complementary private passenger transport, if the occupants of the passenger vehicles do not live at the same address.
The mask will not be required in the event that, due to the very nature of the activities, its use is incompatible, in accordance with the indications of the health authorities, nor in those places or closed spaces for public use that are part of institutions for the care of the elderly or people with functional diversity, as long as said groups and the workers who perform their duties there have vaccination rates with a complete schedule greater than 80%. However, external visitors and workers at said centers must wear a mask in all cases.
The modification of the regulation of the use of the mask and its flexibility in certain environments and scenarios is motivated by the evolution of the pandemic in the different territories of the country, as well as by the increasing degree of coverage that the vaccination program against Covid-19 has achieved.
