An exhibition that analyzes the sinking of the Titanic from the perspective of the PRL opens in Almería
114 years after the Titanic tragedy, its design, voyage and the way in which its sinking occurred have made it one of the incidents with the greatest universal impact and the most far-reaching in the maritime field. Now the Occupational Risk Prevention Center (CPRL) of Almería and the AXA Foundation have inaugurated "Could the Titanic tragedy be avoided? The importance of prevention", with the collaboration of Fraternidad-Muprespa and the Andalusian Institute for Occupational Risk Prevention of the Junta de Andalucía. The exhibition can be visited until December 31.
In his welcoming words, the director of the Occupational Risk Prevention Center (CPRL) of Almería,Rafael Zafra, has highlighted that the exhibition "aims to bring together, integrate and raise awareness among all people of the importance, in all areas, of the vision from the prevention of occupational risks" and has pointed out that "the Prevention Center carries out information, training and awareness-raising work in occupational health and safety."
For its part,Matilde Góngora, provincial director of
"On that path," he added, "the Mutual Collaborators with Social Security have an essential role. We not only assist when the accident has already occurred, but we work to prevent it from happening, through advice, training, awareness and direct support to companies and staff."
Rosario Vico, AXA Seguros Commercial Director, representing the AXA Foundation, has highlighted the work of many men and women for whom these types of tragedies are a lesson. "They analyze and study them to prevent them from happening again. They inspect and review endlessly all the circumstances that occurred before the disaster. And their conclusions are decisive because they stimulate research into new materials, modify action protocols, ways of making or construction, productive and even legislative processes. It is important that society knows that misfortunes like that of the Titanic also serve to save future lives. That the pain of the victims does not fall on deaf ears."
The event was also attended by Amos García Hueso, territorial delegate of Employment, Business and Self-Employment of the Junta de Andalucía in Almería, who has assured that "this exhibition reminds us that we cannot ignore the risks and that preventive actions protect and save lives", while insisting on "the importance of raising awareness and shared responsibility in the field of occupational health and safety. We must continue to spread the preventive culture as a collective commitment throughout society, between companies and workers and also between families and from childhood,” he added.
In this sense, Amós García recalled that "raising awareness of risk prevention is one of the axes of the Andalusian Strategy for Safety and Health at Work, the roadmap that the Government of Andalusia has to reduce accidents and promote a climate of greater safety, health and well-being in the workplace" and he thanked the entities and people who have created the exhibition and made it possible for it to be enjoyed in Almería.
Antonio José Millán, curator of the exhibition and director of the AXA Prevention Classroom, guided the attendees through the exhibition in an attractive and informative visit where he explained the issues that were fundamental in triggering the tragedy of the sinking of the ship.
