The Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital hosts the intermutual forum on pain in occupational pathology
The Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, with the collaboration of the Spanish Pain Society (SED), has held the Intermutual Conference on Pain, a national reference meeting that has brought together specialists from different mutual societies and intermutual hospitals from all over Spain with the aim of unifying clinical criteria, optimizing therapeutic algorithms and agreeing on cost-effective protocols in the treatment of pain in the work environment.
The conference, directed by Dr. Alejandro Ortega Romero, head of the Pain Unit of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, consolidates in Madrid a project started in Valencia in 2021 focused on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), expanded in 2023 to other occupational pathologies and which now reaches its maturity as a stable forum of intermutual clinical consensus. In the presentation of this day, Dr. Ortega highlighted some data:
"Treating pain in Spain represents a cost of between 1 and 2% of the GDP. Chronic pain has a social impact that goes far beyond the direct health costs"
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Sagrario participated Mayoralas, manager of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, Dr. Álvaro Minuesa Asensio, head of the Traumatology Service, and Dr. Alejandro Ortega, who stressed that these meetings allow the transformation of scientific knowledge into clinical tools with a direct impact on the quality of care of the working patient.
The scientific program addressed in a practical way the management of shoulder and elbow pain, with the interventions of Dr. Gabriel del Monte, traumatologist of the Shoulder and Elbow Unit of the HFMH and Dr. Ignacio González, head of said Unit, together with the presentations of Dr. Paloma Morillas and the Dr. Alejandro Ortega anesthetists of the HFMH Pain Unit. Next, Dr. Francisco Serrano, head of the Rehabilitation Service at Fundación Personas y Empresas - AUREN6 Coslada Hospital, and Dr. María Martin from the same service, addressed the issue of occupational cervical sprains.
Another of the most notable interventions has been that of Mr. Asier Agote, Managing Director of the Intermutual Hospital of Euskadi and Dr. José Luis Alcibar, from the Pain unit of said Hospital, developing the acute lumbosciatalgia algorithm and the cost-effectiveness analysis at the workplace level. Next, Dr. Noelia Calvo, also from the Pain Unit of the Intermutual Hospital of Euskadi, explained localized neuropathic pain, from painful scarring to distal amputations.
The second part of the day focused on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Dr. Manuel Asensio, head of the Sequelae and PI Assessment Area at Fraternidad-Muprespa, began the session by sharing the Mutual Fund's experience with the CRPS protocol, to continue with Dr. Maite Bovaira, head of the Pain Unit. Pain from the Intermutual Levante Hospital, which has concluded the diagnostic and treatment innovations, and Dr. Rogelio Rosado, coordinator of the Pain Unit of the Fremap Hospital in Majadahonda, who has developed the evidence of spinal cord stimulation and dorsal root ganglion in the treatment.
Dr. Ana Calvo, head of Anesthesia at the Intermutual Levante Hospital explained the chronic use of opioids in occupational pathologies and to conclude, Dr. Eva Manzano, director of the Health Management Department of Fraternidad-Muprespa and Dr. José Francisco Domenech, Managing Director of the Intermutual Levante Hospital concluded the session by commenting on the progress in the special electronic prescription.
All the presentations concluded with the development of quick guides and agreed protocols, directly applicable in daily clinical practice.
The participation of the medical teams and managers of the intermutual hospitals has also made it possible to value the cost-effectiveness of the proposed treatments, their impact on reducing sick leave times and improving return to work.
This event reinforces Fraternidad-Muprespa's commitment to healthcare innovation, continued training and improvement of clinical practice in patient care.
