The horizon of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, based on the 17 SDGs, dedicates number 4 to “Quality Education”, and number 5 to “Gender Equality”, something important to remember on a day like today, 8M, International Women's Day, since the UN has chosen the following motto for this important and necessary date: “For an inclusive digital world: innovation and technology for equality genre”.

The majority of studies carried out in the field of training agree that women are underrepresented in the STEM universe, not only in universities, but also in the workplace. This lower presence explains why there is no 'carryover effect' by which other younger students want to dedicate themselves to science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Without them, society is depriving itself of a lot of talent in a field called to be key: the jobs of the future, and many of the present, are based on STEM knowledge.

Therefore, a call must prevail for governments to act and accelerate their efforts to achieve a safer, more inclusive and more equitable world, not only in the real world, but also in the digital sphere.

To advance rights, it is essential to confront the different types of inequalities and discriminations from a transversal perspective, so that a diligent and coherent response can be given to them. This is stated by the Government of Spain in the Institutional Declaration approved yesterday by the Council of Ministers on the occasion of the celebration of this day.

It highlights in its writing the importance of the III Strategic Plan for Effective Equality of Women and Men 2022-2025 apstolen a year ago and which includes the political agenda on equality for that period. The text reinforces the importance of “defining and recognizing care as a human right, deploying all public services and measures necessary to guarantee, protect, respect and promote this right, and guarantee the conditions to make it effective.” It continues to highlight the need “for the full incorporation of sexual education as transversal content of our educational system and the development of active policies in this area, as well as promoting measures to promote the presence of women in the digital or green economy, are urgent and unavoidable challenges.”

Creating a better future for women and girls will mean creating a better future for all humanity and all life on Earth
