E nframed within the IX Action Plan of Extremadura for the Prevention of Occupational Risks (2024-20 27), the Extremadura Center for Occupational Safety and Health (CESSLA) organized last Thursday the conference “Prevention of the risk of occupational accidents due to falls from heights in construction works”, which included the participation of Fraternidad-Muprespa.
The Plasencia Conference Center, Cáceres, was the setting for this meeting that revolved around a priority: preventing the high data of serious and fatal workplace accidents in construction sites due to falls from height, especially during roof repair and maintenance tasks.
María Dolores Cortés, Provincial director of Fraternidad-Muprespa in Cáceres, was responsible for presenting the day. He did so by highlighting the actions carried out by the Mutua to prevent this type of accidents: awareness-raising and training campaigns based on educational materials, guides and manuals on working at height, use of individual and collective protective equipment, and good practices on site.
He also described the active collaboration with mutual companies, prevention professionals and public organizations to promote the preventive culture and reduce accidents. " We make technical advice, training sessions, practical workshops and digital resources available to companies through our web portals, such as Campus Prevention. In addition, we support the implementation of systems with the objective of each worker returning home safe and sound every day. Prevention is not only a legal obligation, but an ethical and social commitment ", he concluded.
On behalf of the General Directorate of Labor, its director, Pilar Bueno, spoke, sharing an initial presentation with the Territorial Director of the Labor and Social Security Inspection (ITSS), Montserrat Martín. Both outlined both the actions developed jointly and those carried out individually by each organization, seeking to reduce accident figures in the sector, through the firm commitment to specific technical training, data analysis and the promotion of technical advice and supervision.
Manuel Jesús Castelló, manager of Aquaducto Ingenieros y Servicios Extremeños, and Álvaro Dellano, Collaborating Technician of Isanimar/Anclares Marcelino showed collective protection equipment intended to provide greater security to those who work mainly on roofs, both in construction and in maintenance tasks.
For his part Juan José Pérez Mayordomo, head of the Technical Section of Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics in the Government of Extremadura, offered data on the actions of CESSLA aimed at analyzing the main causes of accidents due to falls from height in construction works and also described the provisional protection systems against falls.
The conference, which was attended by representatives of mutual companies, managers of construction companies and prevention services, as well as personnel from consultancies collaborating with Fraternidad-Muprespa, also served to present practical cases and real examples of retention systems.
