Fraternidad-Muprespa participates in Seville in the conference on SVL within the Board's Shock Plan
With the title “Road Safety: Park the distractions”, the conference organized by the CPRL of Seville has brought together a hundred professionals from human resources, occupational risk prevention and road safety in the Andalusian capital. Closing day close to the celebration of World Road Safety Day on Monday, June 10 and within the cycle of initiatives of the Shock Plan against Occupational Accidents of the Government of Andalusia.
The day was inaugurated by the territorial delegate of Employment, Business and Self-Employment in Seville, Antonio Agustín, accompanied by the provincial head of the DGT in Seville, Ana Luz Jiménez, the director of the CPRL in Seville, Jorge Carbajal, and Lola Jariego, provincial director in Seville of Fraternidad-Muprespa.
Augustín highlighted that in Andalusia "1,234 traffic accidents occurred during the month of April, most of them minor, 17 serious and four fatal. Of these accidents, 336 were during the work day and 898 were on the commute." "Seville," he added, "is the province with the highest number of accidents in Andalusia: 338 accidents in total: 88 in the workplace and 250 on the road. Almost all minor and without deaths."
Jorge Carbajal, stressed the seriousness of the consequences of road accidents and highlighted the importance of holding awareness days in relation to the workplace.
Ana Luz Jiménez presented the DGT's 2030 road safety strategy, which seeks to “reduce accidents by 50% on that date compared to 2019 figures.” He also detailed distractions, inappropriate speed, consumption of alcohol, medication or the lack, even today, of seat belts as the majority causes of accidents.
Lola Jariego offered data related to the accident rate of Fraternidad-Muprespa mutual companies in Seville. “Between 2021 and 2023, there have been almost a thousand road accidents that have involved around 44,200 days of sick leave, which translates into an estimated cost of temporary disability of 1.7 million euros.”
The round of presentations began with David Revillo, Mutual Prevention consultant, for whom the human factor is the main cause behind road accidents. "The main forms of distraction are auditory, tactile, visual and cognitive. The mobile phone encompasses all of them, that is why it is the main element of distraction. And why are we distracted? Due to lack of risk perception," he said.
Mar Cogollos, General Director of AESLEME, Spanish Association of Spinal Injuries and the NGO that cares for victims, explained that the preventive work against this accident that is carried out by the Mutual Collaborators with Social Security is very complete, but he also noted that companies “can and should do much more to avoid them.” “They are a public health problem and can never be classified as accidents, but rather as accidents,” he stated.
Gregorio Serrano, Academic Director of MOVIAM and former Director General of the DGT, declared in his participation that “there is a paradox and a certain resignation derived from the lack of training, which is also eligible for compensation in companies. This explains why, although the high road accident figures have improved in 30 years, they have currently stagnated.”
Myriam Moya, judicial expert in road accident reconstruction and criminalistics, spoke from her experience as an investigator. “All accidents have a reason and we have to find out by investigating, because analyzing the causes is another way to prevent,” he explained, adding that whoever does not go through the hands of training ends up in theirs.
Óscar Fuertes, CEO Infova Automotion and Founding Partner of Champions For Safety, highlighted the need for awareness and training given that “the majority of drivers have not received it again after obtaining the license.” “We do what we do because we believe in what we believe, this is the basis for changing mobility habits and reducing accidents, changing our beliefs.”
The closing was carried out by the Deputy Director General of Prevention, Quality and Communication of the Mutua, Natalia Fdez. for their generosity in sharing, time, knowledge and resources to "raise awareness and sensitize, bringing into the social debate their important testimonies in meetings like this one or those held so far in four other provinces: Córdoba, Almería, Cádiz and Jaén."
Finally, Fernando García, Chief of Staff for Innovation and Prevention Programs of the General Directorate of Labor, Occupational Health and Safety, highlighted the important collaboration with Fraternidad-Muprespa, thanking the quality of the experts present at the table. “Many times we are left with the negative data of people who are injured or die, but preventionists have to be proud of the lives they save every day,” he stated in conclusion of the event.
