New event in Asturias: Emotional intelligence. A new tool in RRLL Prevention?
On April 9, Fraternidad-Muprespa, Mutual Collaborator with the Social Security of Asturias has organized with the Vinjoy Foundation, an informative day, under the title “Emotional Intelligence: A new tool in Occupational Risk Prevention?” Those attending the event have filled the capacity of the assembly hall of the aforementioned Foundation, where the event was held.
Adolfo Rivas, manager of the Vinjoy Foundation, inaugurated the event, at which time he named the Foundation Association of family members and people with mental illness of Asturias(Afesa), to highlight the existing collaboration between both organizations, highlighting the important role that psychosocial factors have in personal and professional relationships.
According to the program, the first presentation has been developed by Jose Beltran, Senior Prevention Technician at Mutua in Asturias, who has focused his presentation on the use of Emotional Intelligence as a method to combat stress and tension, factors that contribute to workplace accidents, highlighting such important elements as image, non-verbal communication and assertive leadership, to conclude with the attitude that the company should adopt in the face of psychosocial risks and how to generate empathy in prevention management and be a healthy business organization.
Subsequently, he took the floor Ursula Villazon, general health psychologist at Fraternidad-Muprespa in Asturias, has focused on the controversial issue of workplace harassment, on how to identify and recognize it. He has given clues to react to it and has broken down the various elements that can occur in these situations, analyzing the profiles of the harasser, as well as their strategies and types of harassment, he has explained how the harasser moves and has described the victim's environment; close people and their degree of participation. He concluded his applauded intervention with a nod to “survival” in a hostile environment and showed the phases that can be differentiated from the possible response to it.
To finish the act,Silvia Garcia, Psychologist at Afesa, has highlighted the role of emotional intelligence and the need for it when entering the labor market. He explained the Association's lines of work, especially the one they develop to incorporate people with mental illnesses into the labor market and the difficulties that these people encounter in developing decent work.
Javier Garcia, representative of the First Person Mental Health Committee of Asturias, has told his personal experience and has listed the obstacles he has had to overcome to integrate into the workplace, giving special value to willpower and emotional intelligence, having to demonstrate, day by day, to be as valid as anyone else when carrying out his work tasks.
