Jesús Corbacho, doctor from Fraternidad-Muprespa Cáceres, distinguished as a young entrepreneur
Jesus Corbacho He is a General Medicine doctor at the provincial directorate of Fraternidad-Muprespa in Cáceres but at 28 years old he has also become an outstanding entrepreneur. It's not just us saying it. Forbes magazine, the one with the millionaire rankings, has just distinguished him as one of the 30 best entrepreneurs under 30 years old (“30 under 30”).
The project for which he has achieved this recognition is called the Eureqa3D Method and consists of obtaining a three-dimensional model with a 3D printer, a high-quality, full-scale “sculpture” of a bone fracture.
The project arose after finishing medical school. Corbacho wanted to combine health and technology, two of his great hobbies. "I love both disciplines. I knew that bringing health and technology together could improve patient treatment," he explains. “We work with hospitals from the Extremadura Health Service and others from Madrid, Barcelona and Gran Canarias.”
Each figure they create is intended to provide the surgeon with as much information as possible before surgery, for example, taking measurements of the plates to be implanted or selecting the necessary material. The result? A faster, more precise, safer and also cheaper surgery.
“It is safer because 3D surgical planning helps reduce surgical complications,” says Corbacho. It is also cheaper because having prior information avoids having to make certain decisions in the operating room, therefore the time necessary for the operation is shorter.
"The price is adjusted so that each surgery saves more money than is spent on 3D printing. It is an investment that pays for itself patient by patient: the saving in time in the operating room and the reduction in complications represents a greater saving than the cost of the model. 21st century health technology must save in addition to saving lives," emphasizes Corbacho.
The process is very agile. For arm bone fracture surgeries, the sculpture is provided in 48 hours, including shipping, and for leg or spine surgeries, 72 hours. In cases of elective surgery, such as malformations or oncological surgery, the entire process is extended a little, up to seven days.
Jesús Corbacho has had the important financial support provided by the awards since part of the funds needed for the development of Eureqa3D comes precisely from there. The rest comes from own funds and a lot of work. That is why he is so proud to be included in the “30 under 30” list. "It is a satisfaction for me and also for the rest of the participants in the project. The awards also make many people notice you and your project."
