65% of traffic accidents in 2019 involving workers protected by the Mutua were in itinere
The workers protected by Fraternidad-Muprespa, Mutual Collaborator with Social Security, suffered a total of 7,066 traffic accidents during the work day last year. Of them, 65% (4,613) were accidents in itinere, that is, they occurred while going to or returning from work, while the rest, 2,453, took place during their work day.
The total number of sick days resulting from these work accidents were almost 280,000, 40 days on average per accident, while the estimated cost for the Mutual Fund, and therefore for Social Security, in temporary disability benefits for this concept, was 11.2 million euros in 2019.
Fraternidad-Muprespa has offered these data during the table on “Road Safety at Work” held at the conference “Preventive activities of Mutual Insurance Companies Collaborating with Social Security” organized by AMAT (Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for Work Accidents) this Tuesday within SICUR, a leading fair on safety at the national level.
David Revillo, Occupational Risk Prevention technician of the Department of Prevention and Development of Health Culture of Fraternidad-Muprespa, was responsible for presenting this data and describing the actions that the Mutual Fund makes available to mutual companies and protected workers in order to reach the goal of zero injuries due to traffic.
Among the actions, the Road Safety Workshops with immersive virtual reality equipment stand out - more than 500 have been held since 2017 - or the celebration last November of the Workplace Road Safety Week, which had the presence and participation of 183 companies.
“We must raise awareness and raise awareness by focusing on the company, the people who make it up and society because, every two days, a person dies in Spain in a work-related trip.” The studies we conduct at Fraternidad-Muprespa show that there is an average improvement of 8% in how workshop participants believe they will behave behind the wheel after attending them. It is essential that there is a change in the perception of risk to modify behavior,” he said during his speech.
