Ginés Grima: a story of life, improvement and prevention

In 2006 on an agricultural property in Almería there was a power outage. Something inconsequential, a momentary blackout, was what changed the life of a 32-year-old man. Ginés Grima was the first to arrive at the farm, a large family farm, and when he approached a high voltage tower he pulled a piece of plastic that was attached to it with the peace of mind that there was no electricity there.

The next second Ginés left the life he knew to start a new one with the same vital force, without his right arm and three very clear things. Getting well and getting back to work were the first two. The third, “that no one whom I know and to whom I have told my story, goes through something similar to what I have gone through.”

When Ginés grabbed the plastic from the high voltage tower she thought there was no danger because there was no light. But there was current in one of the phases of the installation, hence a strong shock seriously damaged all his limbs in addition to throwing him several meters, with the bad luck that he was pushed onto a slope, suffering numerous trauma injuries.

Ginés faced new challenges, a slow and painful recovery from both the damage to her body and her soul, a gradual return to work...all of this supported by her family and the conviction that by doing sports and staying healthy her life would be full.

Now your testimony, collected in this video, is an example and a reflection of the importance of prevention, of a day-to-day life with safety and health at work, of the need for ORP to be a reality in small companies and that there is much more life beyond an amputation. Riding a bike, horseback, quad, driving a truck... The story of Ginés is a story of improvement, effort, work and life. This is his story.
