Fraternidad-Muprespa celebrates the “Give way to safe driving” day in Zaragoza
The headquarters of the Aragonese Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (ISSLA) has hosted the day “Give way to safe driving”. This is an appointment organized by World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, Sunday, November 20.
Eva Ramón, provincial director of Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel de la Mutua, thanked the Institute for providing the space as well as its collaboration in the organization of the day, which was attended by more than eighty people who filled the assembly hall where the event was held.
The day was inaugurated Antonio Barrachina, director of ISSLA, and José Antonio Mérida, Provincial Traffic Chief of Zaragoza. In their interventions they showed that a third of deaths due to work accidents are traffic accidents and that in itinere accidents stand out over accidents while traveling during the day, with human and material costs of great impact.
They also highlighted the launch of a working group promoted by the DGT and the ISSLA in order to collaborate on projects to improve occupational road safety. In addition, the Institute and the "Centro Zaragoza" Chair have a research and innovation agreement, which includes training and informative actions and the study of actions regarding occupational road safety in Aragon.
Next, Marta Monreal, head of the Mobility and Road Safety Service of the Zaragoza Provincial Traffic Headquarters, offered data on the 2030 Road Safety Strategy, national framework of reference on road safety for the next decade. Among the objectives achieved Through this strategy, the reduction in the period 2009-2019 of 37% of deaths per million inhabitants and 38% of people seriously injured in accidents stood out.
On the other hand, it stood out among the objectives not achieved in 2019, for the first time, vulnerable deaths (motorcyclists, pedestrians and cyclists) were half of those killed in Spain as a result of an accident vial. Older people deserve special concern, in the city they account for 70% of pedestrian deaths.
In the workplace, the worrying figures regarding serious and fatal accidents were highlighted.For this reason, Monreal encouraged companies and entities to work on road safety in the workplace.
José Luis Fernández, prevention consultant for Fraternidad-Muprespa, explained how the “Security Workshop” is carried out with the use of immersive virtual reality", awareness-raising tool for the prevention of traffic accidents.
Francisco Ureta, delegate in Aragon of the Association for the Study of Spinal Cord Injury (AESLEME), He moved the audience with the narration of the race of psychological, biological and material obstacles experienced after a traffic accident with serious consequences. His final message was the necessary coexistence on public roads, which is based on the right to life and the obligation to respect the lives of others.
In closing Eva Ramón stressed the need to continue making efforts from multiple areas and continue working in the field of prevention and social awareness.
