28-01: The importance of raising awareness about data protection

General

Since Convention 108 of the Council of Europe for the protection of individuals with respect to the automated processing of personal data was signed in 1981, European Data Protection Day is celebrated every January 28 in the Old Continent.

Celebrating this day has the objective of raising awareness among people and companies of the importance of the processing of personal data, and to raise awareness of the importance of said protection, so as not to perceive it as an obligation but as something to be taken into account.

The data protection and, in general, the security of information, is a job that involves all the parties involved in its processing: individuals, companies and organizations of all types. Without adequate collaboration between all of them it would not be possible to achieve an adequate level of protection.
Fraternidad-Muprespa, aware of the volume and typology of the data it processes and for which it is responsible in the development of its activity as a collaborating entity with Social Security, as well as the importance of its adequate protection, has traditionally been promoting and developing numerous activities in order to achieve said protection. Among them the following stand out:

  • Certification of your Information Security Management System according to the standard UNE-ISO/IEC 27001.
  • Periodic audits to analyze the degree of compliance with the regulations applicable in this matter.
  • Training, awareness and culturalization to all personnel who process personal data.
  • Implementation of a system that allows the generation of corporate digital certificates for employees.

The data protection and information security must be immersed in a process of continuous improvement, which is why a project is currently being developed to obtain the Certification of the Digital Office in the National Security Scheme, , a standard for the organization of the security of information systems, included in the R.D. 3/2010, which must be applied by public sector entities. It defines the security controls that must be implemented in information systems aimed at citizens.

In addition, since May 2021 Fraternidad-Muprespa joined the Digital Pact, an initiative of the Spanish Agency for Data Protection that annually launches campaigns aimed at educating the youngest members of society in the appropriate use of technology, specifically this year focuses on mobile phone use and the not always obvious risks that it entails. That is why they offer families what they have called “The guide that does not come with the mobile” a decalogue of advice to take into account when minors begin to use and manage their own terminal.

These ten points cover situations ranging from planning the arrival of the mobile phone in the life of a child or young person, to recommendations on the convenience of sharing or not sharing data, images or location, in addition to educating in critical thinking and guaranteeing moments of leisure without a digital connection.
