World Climate Change Day: A Call to Global Action
Every October 24, the world comes together to commemorate World Climate Change Day, a date that seeks to raise awareness about one of the most pressing challenges of our time: global warming and its devastating effects on the planet.
World Climate Change Day not only highlights the urgency of addressing climate change, but also serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility we have to protect and preserve the environment for present and future generations.
Climate change, driven largely by greenhouse gas emissions from human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, is altering weather patterns, raising global temperatures and triggering increasingly frequent and intense extreme weather events. These impacts are felt in every corner of the world, from the loss of ecosystems and biodiversity to the threat to food security and rising sea levels.
That is why this day calls us to action at an individual, community and global level in the face of its terrible consequences:
- Increase in temperature
- Thaws
- Sea level rises
- Changes in the water cycle
- Droughts
- Increase in extreme weather events
- Endangered species
- Greater inequalities between countries
- Less natural resources
- Increased risk of disease
And in Fraternidad-Muprespa?
At our Mutual Fund we monitor the consumption of each center and the waste generated by taking measurements and analyzing its variation. In this way, the figures are reduced, which has a direct impact on the reduction of our emissions.
Segregate and recycle waste It also avoids generating new products.
Furthermore, they are modifying facilities to make them increasingly sustainable and efficient, for example with the installation of production systems of photovoltaic solar energy(delegations of Plasencia, Osuna or Almansa),eliminating diesel boilers, like the one in the center of José Abascal (Madrid), or making changes and improvements to air conditioning equipment, which not only means savings in electricity consumption, but also the replacement of fluorinated gases, which generate a great impact in the event of a leak.
They are also being implemented LED systems, motion detectors and lighting regulation, all measures that can lead to energy savings of 60% and aerothermal systems are being installed.
The implementation of teleworking and the flexible remuneration program to promote the use of public transport, are other measures that reduce travel, which leads to a reduction in emissions.
And finally, the corporate forest that we talked about last June, a reforestation project with which Fraternidad-Muprespa offsets 50 tons of CO2.
Damage to the environment has a direct impact on people's health and well-being. Air, water and soil pollution along with deforestation and loss of biodiversity generate a less healthy environment for humans, causing diseases such as respiratory and cardiovascular problems. The state of the environment is closely linked to our health, therefore, by protecting it, we protect ourselves and future generations, because a sustainable and healthy commitment is possible in relation to climate change and the prevention of occupational risks. This is what the Fratertalk in which he participated was about Alfredo Iglesias, PhD Mining Engineer and international consultant.
