November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: Now Spain is different
Since the count of murdered women victims of gender violence began in 2003 in Spain, this figure has exceeded 1,200 women and since January 1 this figure stands at 52 women. For this reason, the Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, has developed the campaign “Now Spain is different”, on the occasion of 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a campaign that influences the change in Spanish society in the face of acts of sexist violence.
It does so with iconic phrases, specifically those from the lyrics of the song “It's over”, by María Jiménez, recited by very different, and with iconic images as well, among which the final stands out, a young soccer player dressed in the Spanish national team kit forcefully declaring “now, my world is different.”
Only in the first half of this year in Spain, nearly 100,000 complaints related to violence against women were filed and almost 20,500 were issued protection orders.
Fraternidad-Muprespa adheres to this campaign promoted by the Ministry and also emphasizes the tools with which it reaffirms its commitment to the fight against gender violence, as evidenced by its IV Equality Plan, which contemplates “measures that guarantee the comprehensive protection of workers who are victims of gender violence and/or sexual”
In the world, according to United Nations data, 736 million women, almost one in three, have been victims of physical and/or sexual violence at least once in their lives. An alarming fact is followed by another equally worrying one: only 5% of global government aid is allocated to gender violence and that allocated to prevention policies is below 0.2%, therefore, little can be done about the situation. violalence exerted by the romantic partner, sexual violence and harassment, human trafficking, genital mutilation or marriage child.
