November 19, International Day of Women Entrepreneurs
If the path of entrepreneurship is already full of obstacles and difficulties, for women who make the decision to do so it is even more so. For this reason, on November 19, we adhere to the celebration of the International Day of Entrepreneurial Women, to raise awareness in society, support and celebrate the successes of all of them and motivate women and girls to become entrepreneurs.
Although the gender gap has decreased in all these years, the reality is that we are still far from equality. According to a 2019 Crunchbase study, only 17% of total Venture Capital investment* goes to businesses founded by women. Furthermore, a 2020 study by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) of Spain reveals that men have higher income levels than women, making them less likely to have bank financing.
Despite these complications, entrepreneurial women do not give up, they take the risks, and they move forward. And this is not something new. In the 19th century, María de las Nieves Álvarez directed the Royal Tapestry Factory of Santa Bárbara; and Fermina Orduña was the first Spanish woman to patent an invention, in her case, a carriage specialized in dairy livestock transportation. Some emblematic places were also created by women, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, by Emily Warren; fashion brands, such as Chanel, by Coco Chanel; or the famous brand of Barbie dolls, by Ruth Handler.
Both the most well-known women worldwide, as well as those who have a small business in their towns and cities, are breaking social prejudices while demonstrating that they have sufficient capabilities to start a business and be successful.
Fraternidad Muprespa: Equal opportunities committed
We watch over the equality of conditions and opportunities between women and men. For this reason, since 2011 we have developed successive plans, promoting access to employment, training, professional development and promotion or occupational health with a gender perspective.
Entrepreneurship is also important for Mutua, therefore, in the Entrepreneur Portal, articles, news, aid and subsidies are published so that entrepreneurs can take their business forward and fulfill their dreams. Within the portal, we have a paragraph so that women entrepreneurs find other websites that present content related to female entrepreneurship.
