Pedro Serrera, deputy director general of Information Systems and Services at The newspaper organizes this event in collaboration with Schneider Electric, as part of the cycle “Sustainable growth: competitiveness and resilience”.

Among other conclusions, at the meeting the experts agreed that, in addition to the transformation that the hospital sector had to face as a result of the pandemic, which widely imposed telemedicine, there are more challenges to face in the field of medical care in order to achieve greater efficiency and be able to provide more responses, and in a more agile way.

Pedro Serrera referred in his speech to the environmental impact of hospitals and why telemedicine is an ally in the fight against climate change. “A hospital is, by definition, a center with a high environmental impact due to the energy it consumes and the amount of waste it generates,” therefore, he continued,

It is important to bet in the design, construction and operation of hospitals on sustainable architecture, intelligent and flexible control, adapting technical installations in real time, use of renewable energy sources and efficient management of the waste generated.

Serrera thus described these important characteristics, which are already a reality at the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, which opened its doors in April 2019 and shortly after achieved the Leed Healthcare Platinum certification, the most demanding in the world for sustainable buildings from an environmental point of view, one of the few hospitals in the world that has this same certificate.

“The objective,” Serrera added, “would be to reduce the carbon footprint in its broadest sense, not only what the hospital is capable of consuming, but also what patients and other external agents generate in their interaction with the hospital.” “That is why aspects such as telemedicine also gain relevant importance,” he concluded.

The person in charge of information systems and services at the Mutual Fund also expressed at the meeting that "the only way to face a growing demand from patients is through processes that are scalable." In this sense, it considers that digitalization is a key axis to achieve scalability. "The patient is the main ally of digital transformation because they know that it benefits them," he indicated.

Serrera participated in this important forum together with Enrique de Porres, CEO of Asisa, Manuel Bosch, corporate director of innovation and technological development of Ribera Salud, Paulo Gonçalves, CEO of Viamed Salud and Jordi García, vice president of Digital Energy and Power Products of Schneider Electric.
