Noise in the work environment: comprehensive approach. Conference organized by caeb in Palma de Mallorca
Fraternidad-Muprespa, Mutual Collaborator with Social Security participated on February 2 in the event ““Noise in the work environment: comprehensive approach” organized by CAEB in Palma de Mallorca.
Mavia Isern, responsible for Occupational Health programs at CAEB, presented the day, thanking the collaboration of the participating entities as well as the attendance of all those present.
Isabel Castro, general director of Labour, Social Economy and Occupational Health of the Government of the Balearic Islands, opened the day and expressed the importance of the prevention of occupational risks and the commitment made in this regard, by the Department of Labour, Commerce and Industry and by the General Directorate itself.
The doctor Patricia Mckinnon, Labor doctor of the Balearic Prevention Service, began the first block of the day with the exhibition "Noise in work environments and its consequences on the worker. Health Surveillance". It described the effects of noise on workers and the actions of the health surveillance area carried out by External Prevention Services.
He then intervened Rafael Reyes, Senior Prevention Technician at Fraternidad-Muprespa, who has focused his intervention on "Risk assessment and prevention and protection measures. Practical cases: hospitality, leisure and music sector, workshops and industry, call centers and other activities". It has developed the evaluation of noise from an ergonomic and hygienic point of view (detailing the different methods of noise measurement), emphasizing the importance of planning preventive measures in relation to this physical agent, to end by exposing these measures depending on whether the action is carried out on the source of the noise, the means of propagation or on the exposed worker. He has also mentioned the additive effect of ototoxic compounds and the current lack of knowledge about them.
The second block of the day began with the joint intervention of the doctors Eugenio Diaz, Deputy Territorial Assistance Coordinator DT Northeast of Fraternidad-Muprespa and Rafael Palmer, head of the Occupational Medicine Area of the General Directorate of Labor, Social Economy and Occupational Health with the presentation “Health management of occupational disease”. Dr. Díaz began his intervention with a clear and entertaining presentation of the definition of an occupational disease and the current list of occupational diseases, entering into the case of hearing loss, to focus on the management model of occupational diseases used by Fraternidad-Muprespa. This protocol begins from the moment the suspicion of an occupational disease arrives until it is declared at CEPROS.
For his part, Dr. Palmer has drawn the attention of those present to the latest data that shows the low number of reported occupational diseases, especially in the case of occupational hearing loss compared to the large number of exposed workers.
Finally he intervened Javier Sola, Senior Associate of Cuatrecasas, Gonzalves Pereira, describing the “Corporate responsibility and legal doctrine on the matter” showing several very illustrative cases.
At the end, an interesting debate was held between attendees and speakers where several doubts were clarified, in relation to this broad field of work, in which there are many parties involved.
